Message from the Principal

Portrait of Mr. David Herrera, Maxson School Principal

Dear Maxson Families,

It is with great pride and excitement that I welcome you to the 2025–2026 school year at Maxson Elementary! As your principal, I feel deeply honored to serve such a dedicated and resilient school community. I am continually inspired by the way our families, staff, and students work together to create a school environment built on trust, growth, and shared success.

This past year, our students made remarkable gains in both Math and Language Arts based on our schoolwide assessments. We also celebrated one of our strongest attendance months—evidence that our Falcons are showing up, ready to learn, and eager to thrive. What I appreciate most about our Maxson community is our collective commitment to student growth, both academically and socially.

At Maxson, we focus on educating the whole child. Students are supported through PBIS, Capturing Kids’ Hearts, and our growing AVID program, which promotes college and career readiness starting in the upper grades.

We’ve celebrated students through academic and attendance awards, joyful holiday events, engaging academic field trips, and enrichment opportunities that make learning come alive. Our after-school enrichment classes and the Think Together program continue to provide safe, engaging spaces where students explore interests, receive academic support, and develop confidence.
Our counselors and teachers are committed to helping students grow as thinkers, team players, and leaders, with empathy, integrity, and responsibility at the heart of everything we do.

As always, the safety and well-being of our students remain our top priority. We follow clear district guidelines and site-based procedures to ensure a secure and supportive environment for all students and families. Our campus remains a welcoming place where every child is valued, protected, and encouraged to thrive.

Looking ahead, families can expect another exciting year filled with learning, leadership opportunities, and student-centered celebrations.

I look forward to partnering with you in creating a joyful, respectful, and high-achieving environment where every Maxson Falcon can soar.

With gratitude and Falcon Pride,
David S. Herrera

  • Here are a few tips to help your child achieve their full potential:

    • Establish a consistent homework routine: Designate a quiet, well-lit space for homework and set a regular time for its completion.
    • Encourage reading: Read with your child daily, even for just 15-20 minutes. This helps develop vocabulary, comprehension, and a love of reading.
    • Limit screen time: Set reasonable limits on television, video games, and other electronic devices, especially during study time.
    • Celebrate effort and progress: Focus on your child's hard work and improvement, rather than just grades.
    • Ensure adequate sleep and nutrition: A well-rested and nourished child is better able to focus and learn.
    • Communicate with the teacher: Use ParentSquare to stay in regular contact with your child's teacher to discuss their progress, address any concerns, and collaborate on strategies to support their learning.
  • ParentSquare
All schools in our district use ParentSquare for school communication, primarily with email, text, and app notifications.

ParentSquare automatically syncs with our student information system to generate an account for each parent, using their preferred email address and phone number. We encourage parents to access their accounts so they can download the mobile app and update their preferences on when and how they are notified.

ParentSquare is a safe, secure, and modern approach to communication and collaboration between school and home. Learn more and get started today by viewing our ParentSquare web page.
