School Vision and Mission
Our mission is to prepare students to be successful college graduates who contribute to society as productive members of the community.
School Profile
Maxson is an exciting TK-6 school where children learn, have fun, and participate in many events. Teachers, staff, students and parents all work together to create an atmosphere of "family."
Our goal is to create a cooperative and stimulating environment that supports all areas of the curriculum, empowering the school community to foster student success in academics, personal growth, and citizenship.
At Maxson, we adhere to the principle of putting students first and tailor the educational programs and climate to meet the needs of an ever-changing school population.
Maxson Elementary Programs & Practices
-
Our school takes much pride in being an AVID school. AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. It is a college-readiness program designed to support students and prepare them for future success.
-
Capturing Kids' Hearts is a philosophy and program focused on building strong, positive relationships between school staff and the community they serve to foster a supportive and engaging learning environment.
At Maxson, our school uses Capturing Kids’ Hearts to build strong relationships and foster a positive, respectful campus culture. Teachers greet students at the door each day to create a welcoming environment and begin with a connection.
Each classroom develops a Social Contract that emphasizes empathy, responsibility, and integrity—guiding how students and adults agree to treat one another.
These contracts are revisited regularly and used to reflect on behavior in a supportive, non-punitive way. These practices help students feel valued, supported, and prepared to make responsible decisions that lead to academic and social success.
-
PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Intervention Supports. It is a means to intentionally teach students school-wide and classroom expectations so that all students can learn how to:
- Identify and reflect on their own behaviors and emotions
- Communicate their needs effectively and respectfully with adults and each other
- Problem solve effectively
At our school, we implement PBIS through our SOAR expectations: Safe, Orderly, Achievers, and Respectful. These expectations are explicitly taught, modeled, and reinforced across classrooms and common areas to support students in developing strong learning behaviors and positive conduct.
We use visual behavior matrices, consistent routines, and regular reinforcement through Falcon Tickets and shout-outs to celebrate students who meet expectations. Our goal is to help students understand what positive behavior looks like so they can thrive socially and academically. We do quarterly activities to celebrate our students' thriving in their positive behaviors and growing as learners.
