Free Cooling Centers in Our Community

Dear MVSD Families,

With the extreme heat affecting our area, your health and comfort are our top priority. Below is the most current information on free cooling centers in El Monte, South El Monte, and nearby communities—ideal places to stay safe and cool this weekend. Please visit the Ready LA County website on Excessive Heat for more information on relief sites, heat safety tips and locations of LA County Pools and Splash Pads at https://ready.lacounty.gov/heat/. 

Available Cooling Centers (as of Friday, August 22, 2025)

1. El Monte Library (LA County Library – El Monte branch)

  • Address: 3224 Tyler Ave, El Monte, CA
  • Hours:  Fri, Aug 22 to Sat, Aug 23 from 10 AM – 7 PM and on Sun, Aug, 24 from 11 AM - 7 PM

2. City of El Monte – Emergency Cooling Centers

  • Address: 3120 Tyler Ave, El Monte, CA
  • Dates: Now through Sunday, August 24, 2025
  • Hours Today (Fri, Aug 22): 10:00 AM – 5:30 PM (Mon–Thu schedule still in effect today)

3. City of South El Monte – Senior Center

  • Hours:  Fri, Aug 22 through 5 PM; Sat, Aug 23 from 12 PM – 4 PM and on Sun, Aug, 24 from 12 PM - 5 PM

  • Hours:  Fri, Aug 22 to Sat, Aug 23 from 10 AM – 6 PM

What to Do/Bring

  • Plan ahead: Confirm operation hours before visiting; hours may differ by location.
  • When visiting, bring:
    • Water and/or refillable water bottle
    • Any essential personal items (e.g., medications, ID)
    • A low-energy activity (book, study materials), especially for library visits
  • Check 211: Dial 211 LA County to locate the nearest active cooling center at any time Ready LA County
